Aadi Krithigai

Tamil Month of Aadi

Krittika, the 3rd of the 27 stars, marks the sacred day of Aadi Krithigai when it falls in the Aadi month—an auspicious time to worship Lord Muruga.

The Tamil month of Aadi (mid-July to mid-August) is a spiritually charged period in the Hindu calendar. It marks a significant celestial event—the beginning of Dakshinayana, when the Sun begins its southward journey. This transition is not just astronomical but deeply symbolic, as it signals a time for inner reflection, worship, and surrender to divine forces.

During Aadi, devotees immerse themselves in rituals, prayers, and spiritual practices. The energy of Goddess Shakti is believed to be most vibrant and powerful in this month. As the universal mother, she offers her protection, strength, and grace to those who seek her with devotion.

📿 Significance of Aadi Krithigai

One of the most auspicious days in the month of Aadi is Aadi Krithigai, which falls on the day when the Krittika Nakshatra (star) is dominant. This star is the third among the 27 Nakshatras in Vedic astrology and holds special significance in Tamil culture and scriptures.

This day is especially sacred to Lord Muruga (also known as Kartikeya or Subramanya), the warrior son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The connection between Krittika Nakshatra and Lord Muruga is profound—he is said to have been raised by the six Krittika maidens, and thus, this star is considered his own. Worshipping him on this day is believed to remove obstacles, grant strength, and offer protection from negative energies.

🛕 How Aadi Krithigai is Celebrated

Devotees observe fasts, visit Murugan temples, and participate in special poojas and abhishekams on this sacred day. In many temples, including hill shrines like Palani Murugan Temple, grand celebrations are held with processions, chanting of hymns, and deep devotion.

At Sri Balagurunadheeswara Swamy Temple, Aadi Krithigai is celebrated with fervor. Devotees gather to seek the blessings of Lord Muruga, offering flowers, fruits, and heartfelt prayers. It is a day filled with spiritual energy, divine music, and a powerful sense of connection with the Almighty.

🌟 Spiritual Significance

Aadi Krithigai is not just a festival—it is a reminder of the power of faith, discipline, and surrender. It encourages us to align ourselves with divine energies, seek inner courage, and walk the path of righteousness with Lord Muruga as our guide.

May this Aadi Krithigai bring light, strength, and peace to all who celebrate.
